She can't swallow. She can't speak. She's in constant pain. Yet some doctors say Lynn's illness is all in the mind. Read her story and you'll never be flippant about 'yuppie flu' again. This is the introduction to an article about Lynn Gilderdale, a very severe ME sufferer, written by Gill Swain in Britain's Daily Mail.
When I read stories of extremely severe sufferers I feel overwhelming guilt for any complaint I've ever made.
For the record, 25% of people with ME are severely affected, and most research studies actively exclude patients at the severe end of the spectrum in the selection criteria. I often wonder how we'll achieve meaningful research progress if we're not represented in the science.
I dearly hope Lynn's situation improves, and she has some relief from what must be relentless suffering.
