A bit about me

Hello there! Welcome, and thanks for visiting.

In 1995 I was an active little whipper-snapper studying at uni, on the precipice of that cliché about the world and oysters.

Then I got sick.

Time passed.

I tried everything.

To my sincere surprise, I stayed sick. And the oyster, such as I'd known it, eased shut.

So we come to today. I'm in my late 20s (or early 30s if you're reading this several years later!) and I live in Australia. I'm happily partnered. I like tea, books, design, corrugated iron, trampolines, gardening, politics, creative endeavours big and small, food, music, typography, good conversation, poetry, flora, fauna, and my laptop. I've always disliked having my photo taken and I'm not too fond of boats, snakes, or variegated foliage.

I have M.E. and am at the severe end of the spectrum, with the associated orthostatic intolerance. I'd never heard of either condition at the time of diagnosis. Illness doesn't define my identity or my existence, but it does have a peculiarly drastic impact, in that I have to titrate my every activity according to its whims.

I'm not sweet and tragic like Beth from 'Little Women', I'm into living exuberantly. Elderly people often proclaim that they still feel 21, and it's exactly like that, I am my strong vigorous self on the inside.

This blog is little tendrils of a life unfurling in an unexpected way. It's my first ever, I hope you'll read it gently.

Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.

Thanks for your description of your computer set-up. It sounds wonderfully useful. I'm not bed-bound, but going back to using a laptop is seeming more and more attractive, in addition to my monster desktop system.

I've really enjoyed reading some of your posts. You and me--into living exuberantly anyhow! I'm so glad to meet you and will now promptly add you to my Google Reader.

Thanks for your good wishes.

Just wanted to let you know how pleased I am to have found your blog. Like yours, my life has unfurled in unexpected ways since being diagnosed with M.E.

Be as well as possible.

Best wishes from Wales.
